Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey offer a variety state and local incentive for renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements. Also, local utilities offer numerous incentives based on your building's location. Here's a summary of Mid-Atlantic programs.


Pennsylvania

Here is a summary of some of the state and local incentives for renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements for commercial building owners in Pennsylvania:
  • Solar Incentives: Pennsylvania offers various incentives for solar energy systems, such as net metering, property tax exemption, sales tax exemption, and solar renewable energy certificates (SRECs).
  • Act 129 Electric Company Energy Efficiency Programs and Rebates: This program offers rebates and incentives for customers who reduce their energy consumption and peak electric demand through various measures, such as lighting upgrades, HVAC improvements, building envelope enhancements, etc.
  • DEP Agricultural Energy Efficiency Rebate Program: This program offers rebates to Pennsylvania agricultural producers for energy efficiency projects, such as LED lighting, variable frequency drives, refrigeration upgrades, etc. The rebates range from $1,000 to $250,000 per project.
  • DEP Small Business Advantage Grant: This program provides 50% matching grants, up to a maximum of $7,000, to enable Pennsylvania small businesses to purchase energy efficient or pollution prevention equipment, such as solar water heaters, geothermal heat pumps, biomass boilers, etc.
  • Alternate Energy Investment Act: This program provides grants and loans for clean and alternative energy projects, including buildings, equipment and land development activities. The program also supports high-performance, energy-efficient building projects for individuals and small businesses.

New York

  • NYSERDA Renewable Technology Programs: This program offers various incentives and support for installing and using renewable energy systems, such as clean heating and cooling, solar, combined heat and power, energy storage, etc.
  • NYSERDA Energy Efficiency Programs: This program offers various programs and technical assistance for improving energy efficiency in buildings, such as benchmarking, audits, retrofits, financing, etc.
  • NYSERDA Drive Clean Rebate: This program provides rebates of up to $2,000 for the purchase or lease of a new eligible electric vehicle (EV).
  • NYSERDA Truck Voucher Incentive Program: This program provides incentives for all-electric and hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks and buses. The incentives range from $12,000 to $185,000 per vehicle.

New Jersey

  • Successor Solar Incentive (SuSI) Program: This program allows solar project owners to earn Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) that can be sold to electric utilities to meet their renewable portfolio standard obligations. The program offers fixed SREC prices for 15 years based on project size and type.
  • NJBPU Clean Energy Program: This program offers financial incentives, programs and services for New Jersey residents, business owners and local governments to help them save energy, money and the environment. The program supports various measures, such as lighting upgrades, HVAC improvements, solar installations, energy audits, etc.
  • NJDEP Electric Vehicle Incentive Program: This program offers incentives to cover the incremental cost of replacing diesel vehicles with all-electric vehicles. Incentives are available for 100% of the incremental cost of the vehicle, including associated charging infrastructure.
  • Charge Up New Jersey: This program offers rebates of up to $4,000 for the purchase or lease of a new all-electric vehicle in New Jersey. The rebate is applied at the point of sale by participating dealerships.
